Ayrshire Business Women meet John Scott MSP

AABW meet John Scott MSP

Last week at our AABW evening, myself and fellow ladies met John Scott, our local Minister in the Scottish Parliment.

We had an enjoyable evening hearing about:

  • current issues John is dealing with
  • a week in the life of John Scott
  • how the Scottish Parliment building was constructed

They weren’t going to budge an inch!

When the Mallards flew in

Completely non-related to the Business, but I just had to share this amusing image with you. ‚   My husband captured this shot at lunchtime today, just outside our garden on the road (they had previously been in our driveway when my husband returned home from Tescos).

We have no ponds or the like, just a ‚  couple of ‚  bird baths , but they chose to fly into our Spallander road.

Ayrshire Party Planner’s preparations for Easter

Easter chicks & bunnies

It’s Easter weekend, and in Ayrshire we have been having some glorious sunshine which got me right into the Spring mood for creating some wonderful ideas for Easter.

I have my sister and her family visiting on Easter Monday, so I’m planning an intimate gathering with lots of Easter delights for lunch. ‚   I will be baking a few favourites, like my chocolate orange bars, cheese scones and some iced buns.

Today I handcrafted a toy chick for each of my 3 young nephews, which I will give them together with a stunning Lindt chocolate bunny. ‚   You can find ready made kits in most supermarkets, or you can buy your own items ‚  from local craft shops and garden nurseries.

Along with a ‚  handful of purple freesias that I bought today, I have ‚  picked some daffodils from my own garden and arranged them in a beautiful cut vase to adorn my kitchen table. ‚   I actually have quite a few different flowers flowering my garden just now, so it’s a nice touch to bring the Spring into your home.

The importance of Easter & Good Friday

Easter is ‚  the annual religious feast celebrating Jesus’ resurrection after his crucifixion. ‚   Good Friday ‚  marks the ‚  commemoration of ‚  his crucifixion. ‚   Easter ‚  falls each year ‚  on ‚  the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon (the first full moon after 21st March). ‚   Easter also marks the end of Lent.

Easter eggs are ‚  gifted to friends and family to celebrate Easter (as the egg is a symbol of re-birth). ‚   The eggs are often given in a basket, or placed in an artificial nest and they can be decorated in a variety of ways, such as: ‚

  • hand painted ‚  chicken eggs
  • chocolate eggs wrapped in coloured foil
  • plastic eggs filled with confectionary such as jellybeans

As a child I remember painting fresh eggs with faces, one for each of the family, which would be then boiled ‚  on Easter morning for breakfast with soldiers.

Ribbon for Elizabeth & Frazer’s Wedding Favours

Plum Ribbon for Elizabeth & Fraser's Wedding Favours

Today I’ve been up to Hobbycraft to handpick matching ribbon for Elizabeth & Frazer’s wedding favours. ‚   It is ‚  really important to me that the colouring is just right, and Elizabeth had sent me a piece of coloured sample satin from her bridesmaids dresses.

I’m expecting the remainder of the supplies to arrive in the next two weeks, so that I can create a sample of both the ladies and mens favours for Elizabeth and Frazer to approve.
